Taiwan Mobile Signs 5G MOU with Nokia
July 25, 2016

Taiwan Mobile inked an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for 5G strategic alliance and experimental network with Nokia on July 21, according to Taiwan Mobile's press release. Based on the MOU, both parties will cooperate on the application and development of new technologies, such as 5G wireless transmission, spectrum planning, small cell/femtocell, and IoT (Internet of Things). Meanwhile, they will exchange ideas about 5G standards and enhance collaboration with pioneering companies in the field of 5G. James Jeng, President of Taiwan Mobile, has expressed positive views on the MOU making a great leap forward. He urged the government to open up 5G frequency spectrum for experimental networks before commercialization in Taiwan. In preparation for the 5G era, Taiwan Mobile plans to "cloudify" their core networks in the second half of this year.
